Building A Home

The Thoughts WarriorRandom Thoughts

To Build A Home The Cinematic Orchestra

There is a house built out of stone
Wooden floors, walls, and window sills
Tables and chairs are worn by all the dust
This is a place where I don’t feel alone
This is a place where I feel at home.

‘Cause I built a home
For you
For me

Until it disappeared
From me
From you
And now it’s time to leave and turn to dust

Out in the garden where we planted the seed
There is a tree to see the world
When the guests came around to blow me down
I held on as tightly as you held onto me
I held on as tightly as you held onto me

And, I built a home
For you
For me

Until it disappeared
From me
From you
And now, it’s time to leave and turn to dust

So what does it mean?  We all want to build a home that we feel comfortable with to move about freely and to be ourselves.  And most want to build that comfort spot with another person.  How?  What moves me the most about the lyrics, is that they aren’t romantic in the sense that most people view romance.  There is no mention of flowers, fluffy toys, expressions of sweet nothings.  The imagery I’m the song depicts to be a stone, sturdy home built on acres of farmland, weathered wood windows,  standing against the elements of weather and time.  The furniture solid, worn from years of use, dusty which collects over time. Yet to me it entails all of what love and romance should be.

Romance is defined as a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life.

What could be more remote from everyday life than sharing a solid foundation, as the house represents with another.  Growing old together, weathered by life, but standing strong and sturdy together. Dusty with knowledge and wisdom that can only come with age and experience.  This knowledge and experience often come from the planting of seeds together.  A seed of getting to know each other.  Entwining roots of each other’s lives to create a new life.  Whether it be having a child, building a business, or meshing a family.  A couple will see their own world and the outside world thru each other’s eyes when they have allowed their roots to come together to create something beautiful.  Something that nothing can break apart.  A true love that experiences the mystery and excitement of living, so in tune with each other, they would do anything.  A romance that lasts, long after we have turned to dust.
